The 2018 Victorian state Podiatry conference was recently held here in Melbourne and we thought we would give a brief recap of our experience. The program of presentations this year was aimed around knowledge and skills for contemporary Podiatry. We heard from our industry leaders to update us on all new technology and advances that had recently been made.
A featured speaker, Dr Ivan Bristow flew in from the UK to present a new technology called Microwave therapy. We were initially skeptical as the title didn’t sound promising. We weren’t sure how people would take to using a common kitchen appliance as a treatment for their feet. Surprisingly the microwave therapy machine resembled nothing of a heating oven (see pictured). The therapy is brand new in Australia and is aimed to treat warts in a fast and painless method. In a nutshell they found by heating the warts (only 7 degrees) it is an effective treatment to target and destroy the virus. Dr Ivan has been researching the results and so far, it all seems promising.
Conferences are a great opportunity for us to network with other colleagues and organizations in the Podiatry field. We are able to take away so much information and advice to continue to grow and learn as therapists. Both of us are feeling very inspired and excited about getting back to treating in the clinic!
