Arguably, the weather has been more unpredictable than normal in Melbourne over the last few months! Leading up to Christmas it has been colder than unusual, and as a result, many of us have been hiding our feet in closed shoes to avoid the cold! You may notice any issues with your feet until you do pop on those summer sandals and bathe your feet in the sunshine! Give them some care and drop in for some foot and nail treatment before Christmas.
Most commonly, fungal infections or damaged nails can appear without much notice. Does your nail differ from it’s usual appearance? Has it thicker than usual or is there any discolouration? Do you need some nail care?!
- Fungal nail infections are typically viewed with a yellow-white based discolouration. The infection itself is spread through fungal spores, which are commonly existent in warm and moist environments such as public gyms, swimming pools and so on. It can be exacerbated through wearing hot, enclosed shoes & you might not realise that it is even there or spreading!
- Damaged nails or nail trauma can occur if you stub your nail on the side of the bed, or it can slowly arise if you have been wearing tight fitting closed shoes. The body responds to the damage through thickening the nail and can often be mistaken for a fungal infection due to discolouration.
