Are you over 60 or have diabetes or any history of vascular problems? At Talaria Podiatry, you are entitled to a FREE Neurovascular assessment!
A Diabetic or Neurovascular Foot Assessment involves the testing of the nerves & blood supply to the feet. These non-invasive assessments can provide early detection & diagnosis of arterial disease leading to better patient outcomes. They also involve examination & subsequent treatment of any dermatological (ie. toenails, corns or calluses), biomechanical or footwear related issues you may have.
People with poorly controlled Diabetes may develop damage to the nerve endings, blood vessels & overall structure of their feet. Nerve damage related to Diabetes is called “Peripheral Neuropathy”, which is a lack of, or absence, of feeling. Diminished sensation places people at risk of undetected injury & gait issues.

Damage to blood vessels can also occur with Diabetes, this can result in “Peripheral Vascular Disease”. People with reduced circulation to the feet may have extended healing time & a greater risk of infection or complications.
Our Podiatrists can detect changes in the feet early, before they potentially lead to further problems. During a Diabetic foot assessment our Podiatrists conduct a thorough visual examination of skin quality, colour & temperature. We assess your blood flow by palpating the arteries in your feet and following this through with a hand held doppler assessment. A doppler is used to assess the quality and efficiency at which blood flows through the vessels and allows us to refer for further testing if necessary. You can see it in action below & on our Instagram.

Protective sensation to the feet is also assessed & recorded. Adequate protective sensation to the feet is assessed with a 10g monofilament. This simple tool allows us to detect a loss or absence of feeling to the feet & track the changes over time.
It is recommended that people with Diabetes and/or a history of vascular problems have a neurovascular assessment annually & Podiatric care as required during the interim. Prevention is always better than treatment! Please either book online or call us at Talaria Podiatrist on 9480 4935 to book your FREE assessment today!
